Mining is the term in crypto, where You as a user contribute computing power to the network. As Atherios is using POW (proof of work) for consensus, mining plays an important role and You can contribute to it. Atherios is based on the DaggerHashimoto algorithm and therefore requires a significant computing power to do calculations. Therefore for Atheios mining is only effiecnt, when You are using GPUs, commonly known as graphic cards.
There are serveral GPU vendors but in prinicple there are two camps:
- AMD
- Nvidia
Let's take take a look at the prerequisites to mine with AMD and NVIDIA GPUs.

The motivation for a computer user to mine is the reward in form of Crypto currency.
